The owner of this vintage firebird had a vintage pickguard but it was not original to this guitar. There were just enough differences in the way it was cut to make it unusable without modifying it in a way that wouldn’t look right. I recently got a new Green Instruments pantograph and this turned out to be the perfect job go it. The Green has a large, flat work table which is ideal for pickguards.
I took a photo of the original Firebird logo and made a 3d printed pattern 3x larger.
The pickguard needed to look old so I did some aging prior to engraving.
After the Firebird was engraved I filled it with enamel paint. The enamel allowed me to do a final cleanup with naptha, which would not harm the ABS plastic material.
